Globe Roaming OTP Issue? Not Receiving Verification Codes While Overseas

Just when I thought everything was finally back to normal, another issue appeared.

This morning, while trying to register for an online banking account in the Philippines, I noticed that I wasn’t receiving the One-Time Password (OTP) needed to continue the registration.

At first, I thought the problem was with my phone. I tried all the usual troubleshooting steps:

  • Restarted my phone
  • Turned Airplane Mode on and off
  • Waited several minutes and tried again
  • Requested multiple OTPs from different apps

Unfortunately, nothing worked.

To rule out a device issue, I purchased a Smart eSIM and tested it immediately. The Smart eSIM received OTPs without any problem, confirming that my phone was working correctly.

I then tested several Philippine apps that normally send OTPs to my Globe number, but none of them could deliver the verification codes.

After searching online, I found posts in a Maya community group where several users reported experiencing the same problem starting today. This suggests the issue may not be isolated and could be related to Globe’s roaming service.

What surprised me is that, as of this writing, Globe has not released any advisory or service announcement regarding the issue.

Ironically, I had just celebrated yesterday because both my GCash and Maya account issues were finally resolved after weeks of waiting. Now I’m facing another obstacle—this time with receiving OTPs while abroad.

For now, I’ll wait a few more days and hope Globe restores the service without requiring any action on my end. If you’re also overseas and using a Globe SIM, you may want to check whether you’re receiving OTPs normally.
