Maya and GCash: A Frustrating Experience with Online Customer Support

When a Simple Mobile Number Change Becomes a Major Problem

Recently, my prepaid mobile number was deactivated, forcing me to switch to a new number. As someone who relies on digital wallets for financial transactions, updating my mobile number on both Maya and GCash became a priority.

On June 14, 2026, I submitted support requests to both Maya and GCash through their online customer support channels. I expected the process to take a few days at most. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.

Maya: Still Waiting with No Progress

Since opening my support ticket, I have been checking the status daily. Despite the time that has passed, there has been little to no visible progress.

The most concerning part is that I can still access my Maya account for now. However, if Maya suddenly requires a one-time password (OTP) verification linked to my old deactivated number, I could potentially lose access to my account entirely.

This creates a difficult situation:

  • I cannot update my number without customer support assistance.
  • I continue to wait without clear progress updates.
  • Creating a new account may be risky because it could be flagged as a duplicate account.
  • If that happens, resolving the issue could become even more complicated.

For a financial service platform, account recovery and mobile number update requests should ideally be handled much faster and with better communication.

GCash: Less Urgent, But Still Unresolved

My GCash situation is somewhat less critical because I rarely use the account. Nevertheless, the support request remains unresolved.

While the impact is smaller in my case, users who actively depend on GCash for daily transactions may find similar delays highly inconvenient.

The Bigger Issue: Customer Support Responsiveness

Digital wallets have become an essential part of everyday life. When account access depends heavily on a mobile number, there should be efficient and reliable processes for customers who need to update their contact information.

Delays in handling these requests can create unnecessary stress, especially when users are worried about losing access to funds or important financial services.

Final Thoughts

I understand that support teams handle large volumes of requests, but waiting for weeks without meaningful progress can be frustrating.

As of today, I am still monitoring both tickets and hoping for a resolution soon. Until then, I remain concerned that a future OTP request could leave me locked out of my Maya account.
